Catching Up on Blaugust: Top 5 Bloggers
I follow quite a few blogs in my RSS Reader, but these are the ones I'm always excited to see come across my dashboard.
I follow quite a few blogs in my RSS Reader, but these are the ones I'm always excited to see come across my dashboard.
Blaque in the City

She's probably the veteran in the vlogging sphere and one of the few people I've followed for yeeeaaaaarrrrs. While she's most known for her commentary videos, I also follow her blog for her opinions on the kink scene– not to mention the validation and feeling Seen as she describes some of her run-ins with anti-Blackness in said scene (with additional perspectives as a trans woman). She's also few of the polyamorous bloggers I can think of off the top of my head.
I also follow her on YouTube and Nebula.
Novalandia (CMDR Nova's Posts)

Talks about indieweb stuff (including Upheavals), tech, and general neat things she's currently doing. And she does a lot! Like making music and putting together guides for setting up a site and other things.
BONUS: Did I mention she makes music? Oh, just several times? Here it is again: BOOT CMD on Bandcamp.
Sightless Scribbles
Because of this writer I've become more aware of accessibility issues– or lack thereof, usually, and forces me to revisit how I place information on the Internet. And I just also enjoy how he puts words together. It's hard to pick a favorite entry, but the one titled "My Refrigerator Thinks I'm in a Cult" is easily Top 5.
BONUS: Read more about his Accessibility work on his site.
Honorable Mention? Where's Your Ed At

Not only does he hate genAI with the power of a thousand suns, he also gets into the nitty gritty of the how and why of genAI and bitches about Big Tech with the same energy I do– with some bite and not too nice about it. I also follow his podcast, Better Offline.
I have this mentally parsed as a newsletter, but it's still under "Blog" in my RSS reader, so it sorta counts?
The Black Nathalie Sancoeur

She talks about fandom and offers media analysis through a Black woman's lens. I really love how she just gives it to ya straight: for example, her latest post is titled "Cosplayers and congoers have no respect for staff, volunteers, or property." Ouch, but apparently it still needs to be said. Why can't y'all just be cool?
I came for her Miraculous Ladybug takes, and stayed for her dopeass energy. I literally jump out of my seat when I see something new from her. And remember, no one is worthy of being her first mate. <3
She will show up again when I mention some of my favorite YouTubers.
BONUS: She has a store full of fannish stuff! And she writes books!!
American Girl Outsider

I get to vicariously live through this blog at the really cool dolls, clothes, and accessories. She also discusses the importance of calling out the lack of representation and the disrespect Black fans may receive.
Also, real talk, this person was one of the first to crack through my Lightskin Nonsense and opened my eyes to how insidious racism and anti-Blackness are. She introduced me to critical race theory before people started calling it that, was blunt when I fucked up because I was Young and Optimistic (look, I had just passed my driving test), and was sugarcoatless-honest in her life experiences.
I grew because of her, and to this day I quote "So Goth I was born Black!" attributed to her (yeah, another thing– there weren't any other Black goths in my literal neck of the woods, so to connect with one via Livejournal was fantastic).
So, in short, I love this blog and the person behind it. That's probably a touch parasocial, but I just appreciate her impact on my life and the existence of this blog. No matter how long it'd been since the last update, it's always at the top of my feed and patiently waiting for the next one.
Bonuses
- The eBook Reader Blog - because I love gadgets and like to keep an eye on the latest (or not) eReaders.
- IKEA Hackers - their furniture is already cool; only thing cooler are the modifications people do to 'em!
- Everyone I follow on Dreamwidth - pretty much what it says on the tin. DW does support RSS, but I access these blogs through the site so I can read any FLocked posts (as in, only mutual friends can view them).

And in putting this list together, I realize that I really need to follow more blogs. If you have any suggestions, please give me some!
