Walking
Without a car,
I picked up my walking stick and got going.
What else was there to do?
That's just how we are.
My parents did, my elders do, I was raised this way
Whether it's leisure or what must be done.
If he could walk five hours before coffee so I could sleep...
I can walk one hour after clocking out.
Or Taking the Bus
Unreliable,
But I still look forward to the bus
When I need it.
I'm never too far from a stop.
While in motion
There is nothing for me to do
But
Slow
Down
Like I should:
Appreciate the places we go by, and
Remember how everything is connected.
But Having a Car
Another one of my bubbles and buffers
Against the rest of the world.
Spontaneity, Travel, Planning
Are easier to do
And I can get us there.
Though, I'm never far from a bus stop and
The walking stick stays
In the backseat.
