Some Tankas
The tanka is an ancient Japanese poetic form. In contemporary English versions, it often takes the shape of a five-line poem with a 5 / 7 / 5 / 7 / 7 syllable-count – kind of like a haiku that decided to keep going.
NaPoWriMo's Prompt for April 1st
1
At ease within the
Urban confines of our worlds.
Drawn inward: flowers,
Unknown to us commuters
Before we slow and enjoy.
2
Discouraged. Stubborn.
If only I wasn't shy.
Hopeful. Exhausted.
I yearn for waters my own
And company that sees me.
3
Recoil to HOME.
Tonight is for lonliness.
In the morning I'll
Take his old words and survey
What's left of my black spirit.
