No Prompts, No Drafts, No Buffer: What I Got So Far
Yanno, if I was smart, I'd actually look into all the prompts I have saved in various places. I've been taking it real easy with myself, and have been focusing more on private journaling. But also, I'd open up a page and get hit with the ol' "Shit, I don't wanna." I wonder what that's about. (The answer is trauma.)
I'll do a lot of posts with a lot of prompts later, when I'm feeling better or not; that'll also help dislodge a few things.
And OK, I lied. I have a few drafts I've been slapping around:
- meandering about my first fannish milestones (I even remember the first fanfic that "got" me)
- ranting (affectionately) about Love and Deepspace
- That Robotech Comic (semi-derogatory)
- re: workflow and the apps that I use
- "Internet Adventures" (lmao what is this)
- "What I've Been Doing" (like organizing my bookmarks)
But there's nothing in the buffer, though. Only Drafts... which I really should complete. And I still need to write about Tekko Con.
But hey, lookit that– prompts! We got some catching up to do.
Week 1
What made you decide to do Blaugust this year, and what are your personal goals? + Do you remember how you heard about Blaugust for the first time?
Oh, this was on a whim. I read about it in passing with some other bloggers in the Fediverse and thought "hey! that sounds cool! I should do that." It was only until now that I decided to look up the actual structure of this blogging/writing challenge. (I had assumed it was a blog-a-day, like Bloganuary.) My only goal is to just try (and be more prepared for next year).
Did you start preparing for Blaugust before the August 1st start date? If so, what did you do ahead of time to make sure you’d stay on track?
Hahah nope! Just a "sounds cool, I'll do that when I can."
Week 2
Tell us ten random facts about the human behind the blog.
- I love instrumentals and video game soundtracks.
- I like to bite. No, really. If I really like you I am going to bite you (but will ask first).
- I hate artificial shrimp flavor.
- I am left-handed, and I prefer to use a computer mouse with my left hand.
- I had to get my tongue snipped at so I can speak better. They used a laser!
- I do not know how to ride a bike.
- Favorite color? Blue. Sapphire blue, specifically...
- But my favorite blue in HTML/CSS is "deepskyblue," or £00BFFF.
- Favorite Font? Georgia. Tw Cen MT is a second-favorite. And Verdana is my go-to.
- My chosen name is derived from the scientific name of a favorite tree of mine.
- BONUS: I thought I was bitten by a ladybug, but it was actually an asian beetle.
Tell us about your absolutely favorite entertainment media.
Not gonna lie, I am a sucker for CDs and DVDs– optical media. There's something about holding a shiny round thing in my hand that really gets me going, you know? And it's pretty cool how they work.
Tell the story behind the creation and name of your blog.
"Raintree Ruckus." Because I like raintrees, and when I really have something to get off my chest, I tend to cause a ruckus. I also enjoy being a little agent of ruckusing chaos. If you've seen Strangers with Candy, it's the main character yelling "I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY" – you know, that energy.
What other hobbies do you have besides blogging / the topic of your blog?
I like video games, books, and rambling about anything else I deem interesting. I also write (poetry, fanfiction, fiction), go on walks/hikes, music (electonica), and petting cats. I also love learning about retro computing and technology preservation.
Tell us about the part of the world you live in like you’re trying to attract someone to visit.
I'm in the USA at this time of writing, so no I'm fucking not.
Tell us about your blogging workflow and / or show us your creative space.
Thanks to Notesnook on my laptops, phone, desktop, and browser access, I can write just about anywhere. I like writing at my home desk, or at the library or coffeeshop for a change of scenery. If inspiration strikes me and all I have is the phone, I'll jot down some notes (and if I'm lucky, I remembered to bring the Bluetooth keyboard and could get more than an outline done).
Most entries, I can hit the ground running with a main idea that I expand upon. For lengthier posts, I jot down rough outline first before I start filling in with paragraphs and supplemental stuff (quotes, images, links). Then I review and revise (with varying results). And then I post when I am happy with it! And even when I'm not happy with it; perfect is the enemy of good. But I have to feel "good enough" about it.
I should take a picture of my desk. I think it looks cool. And it's rare that it's actually tidy. When I get home again, I'll do that.
What Next
Week 3 of Blaugust focuses on Top Favorites of artists, music, and bloggers– those need a bit more work and looking-into and thinking-on, and I gotta link stuff, besides. :3
See y'all around!
